Ruckmanism
No.1 REFUTED. [By Pat Benner]
His
Unscriptural Ministry
Dr. Ruckman
received his first divorce in 1962. Shortly thereafter he
began Pastoring Brent Baptist Church in Pensacola Florida.
In 1972 Dr. Ruckman married the divorced wife of one of his
former students. There was so much contention in his own church,
that a vote was taken in the Church as to whether to support
his second marriage, 200 voted for it and 100 opposed it.
He resigned and started the Bible Baptist Church in 1974 with
17 people.
First
I will examine the issue of his Unscriptural Ministry.
Acts
8:14-25 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard
that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto
them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed
for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as
yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized
in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then
laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy
Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the
apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them
money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever
I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
But
Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because
thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased
with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter:
for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore
of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought
of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
For
I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and
in the bond of iniquity. Then answered Simon, and said,
Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which
ye have spoken come upon me. And they, when they had testified
and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem,
and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
After
the Stoning of Stephen in Act 7:60 the Church scattered throughout
the Land, when the apostles heard that the Gospel had been
preached in Samaria, they sent forth Peter and John to pray
with the people that they might receive the Holy Spirit. In
the first part of this passage we see the very first of many
Missionary Journeys After they had preached the Gospel they
returned unto Jerusalem.
Acts
11:19-26 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution
that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and
Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto
the Jews only. And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene,
which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians,
preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with
them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
Then
tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church
which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that
he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had
seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all,
that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of
faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
Then
departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: And when
he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came
to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with
the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were
called Christians first in Antioch.
Once again
we see another Missionary Journey. Here we see Barnabas being
sent forth from the Church at Jerusalem unto Antioch to preach
the gospel to the people there. Barnabas then goes to Tarsus
and brings Saul unto Antioch and they spend a year here teaching
the church.
Acts
12:25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when
they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John,
whose surname was Mark.
Acts
13:1-13 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain
prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called
Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought
up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to
the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas
and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when
they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them,
they sent them away. So they, being sent forth by the Holy
Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed
to Cyprus. And when they were at Salamis, they preached the
word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also
John to their minister. And when they had gone through the
isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet,
a Jew, whose name was Barjesus: Which was with the deputy
of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called
for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation)
withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy
Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtlety
and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all
righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways
of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon
thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season.
And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and
he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. Then the
deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished
at the doctrine of the Lord. Now when Paul and his company
loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John
departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
Here by
guidance of the Holy Spirit, and with prayer and fasting,
Saul, (later to be Paul) and Barnabas were sent out from the
Church at Antioch. It was decided to take John Mark with them.
After an encounter with a false prophet, John Mark left and
returned unto Antioch.
Acts
15:36-40 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let
us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we
have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. And
Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname
was Mark. But Paul thought not good to take him with them,
who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them
to the work. And the contention was so sharp between them,
that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas
took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; And Paul chose Silas, and
departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace
of God.
Paul was
going to go back to the people that he had already preached
to, and was going to take Barnabas with him, but Barnabas
wanted to take John Mark, and Paul said no. Paul had taken
John Mark on a previous trip to Pamphylia. And John Mark left.
Barnabas
rebelled against Paul's Authority and left. In the Garden
of Eden when Eve listened to the Serpent, and rebelled against
God, she brought sin into the world. When David rebelled against
God and sinned with Bathsheba sin entered into his life. Barnabas
left on his own, because he would not listen, this is the
first time we see a Man attempt to start a Church without
the Authority of a sending Church.
When
a New Church was started, it was started because the Disciples
were sent out, and after they started their Church they returned
back to Antioch. And even in the end Paul rebelled against
the Church at Antioch, and left for Rome on his last Journey,
and in doing his own life was forfeited, as the axe of the
executioner removed his head.
Heb
13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have
spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering
the end of their conversation.
There
is not a single New Testament Church that was ever started
because of a split. At this point in the Bible Barnabas fades
into history, there is NO Record of Barnabas ever starting
ANY church recorded in Scripture.
God may
have blessed some of the works of the Man, but the Blessing
of God was not on him.
Rom
16:17-18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause
divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have
learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not
our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words
and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Dr. Ruckman
divided his own Church with his Divorce, he has divided the
Church because of his teachings, and he has divided the KJBO
camp because of his belief of 'Re-Inspiration' of the King
James Bible.
Given
the Scriptural Method of starting a Church you see Dr. Ruckman
rebelled against Authority, and therefore has an UNSCRIPTURAL
MINISTRY.
